Preparing for the 21st Century
Tech Trip to Lamb Inc.

On April 8th, 2009 our tech club traveled to Mechanicsburg to visit an computer manufacturing plant by the name of Lamb Inc. Members that went gave up a half day out of school to make the trip since Easter break was starting that day. Thanks everyone! The trip down was pleasant since Kait Gorgone won an Easter basket in a trivia contest and shared her prize.
When we arrived at Lamb Inc. we were taken to the board room which impressed everyone. I think the students would have carted off the big table and the chair if they could have. We were then introduced to Tim Renard who gave use a grand tour of the facility.
In this room we were shown a variety of products produced at this plant. One item of interest was a computer in a clear case. It had lights and all the bells and whistles. We were told the this computer had to be assembled by prople with gloves on to
cut down on dust and etc.
Just down the hall was the assembly and "burn in" room. lamb has the ability to test and "burn in" 700 computers at the same time. Tim also told us that they hire summer help mostly from colleges, but have hired high school seniors from time to time. the rows of
racks you see in some of these pictures are where they set up the computers for testing. the long table with the computer parts on it is the assembly area. They have 3 sets of tables just like this one for assembling computers on quanity. We were shown how all the parts must be catalogued and prepared for computer assembly. They literally can build computers to most any specification.
We had to watch the students closely since they seemed to want to pocket a new laptop or at least some parts especially when they wee all talking about the new faster processors. We stopped by the business office and noticed
that this fellow has three computer screen going at the same time. I hope he is coordinated doing this. All the parts come into their main warehouse area. It appear near empty now, but we were told that soon it would be full.
We wrapped up out tour by stopping by their lunch room for pizza, cookies, chips, and soda. These people knew what we wanted.

And of course nothing would be complete without the goodbye picture.
Thanks Hunter Charles, Ryan Scardigili, John Schultz, Kait Gorgone, Chelsea Derrick, and Sam Pawelski..... and special thanks to Mr. Hess for making the trip possible!
